I don't have any plans to get back to Nigeria for the next few months, but if I do get there after the initiative has kicked off, I'll definitely let you know. Good luck! I'll follow you on FB.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12789902919722195068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3966617675778283280.post-36527477820614854332011-03-19T03:07:55.096-04:002011-03-19T03:07:55.096-04:00What a great passion you’ve got. And as your interest is, I would encourage you to still make out time to get involved in the transformation of this poor community in the nearest future. The very first time I visited Makoko, I wept. Though it was a long time ago, but I said to myself that I will come back to be a blessing to them one day.
Marjorie, Robyn, Hermina and Bob, thank you for your contributions. As much as you love to see Makoko transformed, I am passionate about it too. But if we all talk and not act, it will bring no change. Even faith without Works is dead. I just got back from the US to join a team of young people who are willing to make a change in Makoko community. I have spoken to 8 local partners who are ready to kick off with us; and currently talking to Rotary International.
The Project is called Makoko Trans4mer. It is aimed at transforming Makoko. It is divided into 3 phases. The first phase is kicking off on 15th April 2011 visiting the community with relief and health support. Then we are providing a non-for-profit private community based school to give standard education to the poor children. A development centre for youth empowerment and adult literacy; and a future structural development project of the whole water community - a framework we got from Uganda.
I saw this blog on my search to know what people have done about Makoko in the past and am so excited to see Google's Man visit Makoko. Should you think of being part of this transformation, please feel free to contact us.
